Rotary Clubs plant 875 trees in Bonn
Rotary International President 2017/18 Ian H.S. Riseley believes that protecting the environment and curbing climate change are essential to Rotary’s goal of sustainable service.
He said “The time is long past when environmental sustainability can be dismissed as not Rotary’s concern. It is, and must be, everyone’s concern.”
The RI President has challenged every Rotary club to make a difference by planting a tree for each of its members between the start of the Rotary year on 1 July and Earth Day on 22 April 2018.
The nine participating Rotary Clubs of Bonn and the Rotaract Club Bonn, led by the 2017/18 D1810 DG Wolfgang Maurus, accepted the challenge and participated in a tree planting exercise on Saturday 17th March 2018.
The joint tree planting day initiative was coordinated by the RC Bonn International on behalf of the participating Rotary Clubs in Bonn and Rotaract Club Bonn.
A specific and grateful shoutout to the Stadt Bonn Forester Sebastian Korintinberg and his team of foresters for their constant and consistent advice, and whose support and guidance made this initiative a joy to implement.
Planting trees is an opportunity to 'put something back’ into the environment and encourage birds, insects and other creatures into our habitat.
Planting trees is the easiest and most sustainable way to positively affect the environment. We need trees now more than ever!
Trees are our lifeline to cleaner air and a healthier environment.
Planting is an act of putting down roots and contributing to the future. Renewable, biodegradable and recyclable. The simple act of planting a tree, helps the environment in so many ways.
  • filters pollution from the air
  • helps recycle water
  • prevents soil loss
  • creates shade
  • gives shelter from wind and rain
  • provides homes for animals
  • makes food for humans and wildlife
  • provides an interesting, soothing, learning environment for children and your community
  • generates jobs and contributes raw materials for buildings, newspapers, books, etc.
