The Rotary Club Bonn International (RCBI) is committed to helping orphans and vulnerable children in Malawi, and chose this as its first International Project.
This falls under two of Rotary’s six areas of focus, Health Care which focuses on ending malnutrition, poor health care, and inadequate sanitation to ensure children have healthier, longer and more meaningful lives and Supporting Education where the goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy.

Rotary Clubs plant 875 trees in Bonn
Rotary International President 2017/18 Ian H.S. Riseley believes that protecting the environment and curbing climate change are essential to Rotary’s goal of sustainable service.
He said “The time is long past when environmental sustainability can be dismissed as not Rotary’s concern. It is, and must be, everyone’s concern.”
The RI President has challenged every Rotary club to make a difference by planting a tree for each of its members between the start of the Rotary year on 1 July and Earth Day on 22 April 2018.

It is that time of the Rotary year again.
Sharing knowledge and learning’s for continuous improvement!!
We want to be creative, bold and practical as we plan for the next three Rotary years.
Variables: member retention and growth, average age, fund raising, service projects, member engagement, family of Rotary ..., the list is long.
What shall we prioritise?

Rotary was founded on fellowship. Since being chartered in February 2016, the Rotary Club Bonn International strives to maintain the spirit of joint fellowship by sharing in social activities with other Rotary clubs in the area. Most of these activities are open to our spouses, family and friends, which contribute to making them that much more enjoyable and special.

Rotary has long recognized that poor attendance and declining membership is of concern.
RI leadership has spent more than eight years, through two CoL (Council of Legislation), contemplating the problem.

Rotary in Action
More than one million Rotary members have donated their time and personal resources to end polio.
Every year, hundreds of Rotary members work side-by-side with health workers to vaccinate children in polio-affected countries. Rotary Members work with UNICEF and other partners to prepare and distribute mass communication tools to reach people in areas isolated by conflict, geography, or poverty.
Rotary members also recruit fellow volunteers, assist with transporting the vaccine, and provide other logistical support.

A very interesting invitation from the president of the Rotary Club Milano International reached us these days, regarding a new Rotarian project called "Two Wheels Academy". The name is not only a reference to Rotary's insignia, but also has a very specific meaning. We've copied president Alfio Morone's invitation below.

Bonn’s development from capital of Germany 30 years ago to “Germany’s UN city” nowadays is closely tied to the emergence of Bonn’s first international Rotary Club, RCBI. Many fellow Rotarians, including the author of these lines, would not be in Bonn today if this transition to an international business place had not taken place.
It was only fitting then that Dr. Monika Hörig, immediate past president of RCBI and Spokesperson of the City of Bonn, presented this development during the Club’s regular meeting on August 21st. As always, her description of facts, processes and developments was laced with personal memories and remarks that showed that Monika had accompanied this development from day one. Of course, this also resulted in an enlightening and colorful evening.

Induction of new Rotary members

The heart of a Rotary Club is their members, dedicated people who share a passion for community service, fun and friendship. So, our members are our most important asset. They are what allow Rotary to carry out its many humanitarian efforts and achieve its mission.

RCBI Membership Satisfaction Survey 12th December 2016.
The means to attracting and retaining members is awareness of what members need and value, how the club meets those needs and what the members think of the service organisation.
The survey provides a snapshot of member satisfaction, attitudes towards engagement and an overall benefit of membership.
With data the club leadership can adopt and adapt strategies that make us relevant and provide value.

Rotary service improves the quality of life in a community!

Once more the Rotary Club Bonn International is on duty carrying out a service project.
This time the project is the painting of the Kindertagesstätte in Winkelsweg (KiWi), in Friesdorf, Bonn.
On a rainy Saturday morning I leap out of bed with a smile and the joy of having in front of me a mission to accomplish. It does not bother me that it is dark, rainy and cold, nor is it problem that it is only 7:30 am. Today is a great day to serve to the community and I am already on my way to KiWi.

On Saturday 24th September 2016, in support of the Bonn Orange campaign for clean streets and green spaces, Rotarians from RC Bonn International accompanied by Families of Rotary and Friends of Rotary participated in making Bonn, "spic and span", contributing to maintaining its litter free appearance.
We cleaned up along the Bonn waterfront from Wilhelm-Spiritus-Ufer 1 to the Kennedybrücke, from 08.00 hrs to 12.00hrs and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
